How to Master Keyword Research Tools

At the heart of any successful Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategy are targeted keywords. These are keywords that have to do with the specific niche that you want to show up on search engine results pages. The first section to go over is the Keyword overview. This lets you enter up to 100 different keywords to analyze. After you enter your keywords, you are given a table with important information regarding each keyword you selected. The search volume shows you how many searches are performed each day with that keyword included. The next piece of information it yields is a graphic showing the trend of searches for it over the last twelve months. This is useful for seeing how consistent interest is in a given keyword.
Up next is the keyword difficulty. This is a percentage that shows how hard it is to rank for that keyword. The higher the percentage, the harder it is to rank for. This can help you plan which keywords to target.
SEMrush also helps with keyword research for pay per click campaigns. In the keyword overview, you can see the average cost per click or CPC. This tells you how much you would need to bid on specific keywords for your ad campaigns.
The next value is the competitive density. This shows you how difficult it is to bid on a specific keyword for an ad campaign. 1.0 is the hardest to bid against with 0 being the easiest.
The last section of the keyword overview is the results. This shows the overall number of domains that show up for a specific keyword search. This is another way to gauge how competitive a specific term is in your keyword research.
2-Keyword Magic Tool
The keyword magic tool is great for finding similar keywords to add to your campaign. The way it works is similar to the keyword overview. In this feature, you enter one keyword and you get information on any other keyword that has your chosen keyword in it. These are displayed on a table with the same metrics as the keyword overview. You can organize the keywords by any of these different values by clicking on the top of each column. This is the easiest way to find the right keywords that you might not have considered in your research.
Now that you know what keywords you want to use, you could probably use a place to store them. That’s where the keyword manager comes in. Here, you can create different lists for different keyword campaigns and organize them however you like. In the keyword magic tool, you will see a little plus icon by the keywords. Clicking this will add them to your keyword manager.
4-Organic Traffic Insights
This is another great keyword research feature included in SEMrush. In a nutshell, it gives you related keywords that you might have missed. It does this by linking with your Google Ads and Google Search Console and analyzing your keywords versus what keywords others in your niche are using. It also gives you a graph showing how your SEO has been affecting your site traffic. Any of this information is easily downloaded in a spreadsheet.
